Just your time. I completed a new design recently that I wanted to share with you. It's different from anything I've ever made.
It's an array that connects two objects to each other. I know there's technology that does the same, and with the earpiece it's redundant in some ways, but it still has its uses.
I've been tinkering with it too, trying to create different variations on it. The primary purpose acts as a locater spell. The array is carved into a pair of objects, and one of the objects will always be able to find another. I'm not unaware of the flaws in that however. I'm working on a way to make it so that only a specific person can activate it. [It doesn't eliminate the possibility of it being activated under duress, but it's better than nothing.]
It's easier for people like you and me who can activate it with qi or chakra. For people without or on missions where our abilities are blocked, I'd have to find another way.
The other variation I created are linked journals. What is written in one appears in the other. This one's way more useless with the network, I mostly just wanted to see if I could do it.
I'm fairly sure I know the answer, but I wanted to make the offer anyway. If you want either variation, I'll make sure you have it before the mission since we won't be on the same ship.

I believe it would help that people wouldn't have any idea what they are, but that isn't a foolproof plan.
[Oh. Well that's embarrassing. For Wei Wuxian. (Is he blushing?) Pointedly ignoring the frankly ridiculous amount of joy those words incite, Wei Wuxian is quick to rise and gather his things together, hastily reaching for the linked notebooks he's already completed and the beaded bracelet he's been fiddling with.]
[By the time he gets there he's thankfully calmed down from the initial excitement, and he knocks on the door twice before simply pushing it open, used to Itachi keeping it unlocked when he knows he's on his way. He smiles at him as he toes off his shoes, holding out a simple notebook to him first. The other notebook is held under his arm, brought so that he can show him even if the concept is rather easy to grasp.
Who's he kidding, he just wants to show it off because it works and he's been working on this one for months.]
It works exactly like it sounds. In all honesty, this is only as secure as any notebook, but I imagine it more for recreational use than sending secure information. Or at least only for that as a last resort.
[He flips open the journal tucked under his arm and scribbles a quick cartoonish crow onto the first page and then gestures for Itachi to open his own notebook up. The same scribbled drawing will of course be on the first page.]
[Wei Wuxian comes towards him as asked, unsure of how Itachi means to do so even with the Sharingan. He knows that Itachi can but has never asked for the specifics of how.]
๏ผ he cannot give the man the sharingan, nor the pattern recognition that comes with it. but he can teach him. implanting false memories is easy. he gives him several days' study, in a pleasant place that radiates safety and warmth.
he makes it easy for the man to distinguish. the colours are inverted in the memory, the edges too sharp to have been softened by a normal human mind. it is clearly, identifiably false. but the suggestion underwritten there is that it does not have to be so. it is a choice.
[It isn't like anything he's ever experienced. Tsukuyomi was easy to distinguish from reality even if once he was inside of it it had been impossibly real. But if the memories Itachi was implanting weren't so intentionally false, he wouldn't know the difference. It's a frightening amount of power.
Still, it's easy to lean in and respond to the silent question, accepting the memories as his own.
When he opens his eyes, Wei Wuxian is a little stunned. The cipher is there if he reaches for it and he remembers learning it. A pleasant memory that even now he knows is false.]

If you rip a page out, it will disappear from the other side. The link is built into the notebook itself, so when the pages are removed, the link is broken. I thought it was a flaw at first, but then decided it might be helpful if there was a need to destroy something quickly.
๏ผ he turns the book over in his hand. already he is considering how he might seal it into a scroll. an extra layer of security that goes beyond simple encryption — not that he truly expects such a measure will be necessary, it is more... he is, in many ways, a creature of habit. ๏ผ
How long would it take you to recreate another, if it were to be destroyed?
[He shrugs, shaking his head.] Maybe an hour. It's designing the array that takes time. Once I've got it worked out it's just a matter of copying it where and how I want it.
But obviously everything inside would be lost for good.
[Oh. Huh, that's right actually. He smiles at Itachi.]
We make a pretty good team, don't we? [With a soft huff, he reaches into his robes and draws out a simple corded bracelet with a single wooden bead and holds it out for Itachi to take.]
Here. You can activate and inactivate it by feeding it a little bit of chakra. There are characters carved into each side and once it's activated, the corresponding character will glow based on the direction of the bead's partner. Like a compass, but oriented to its other half. [He taps at an identical one that he wears on a cord around his neck.]
๏ผ the bracelet is accepted with a deft hand, but the comment about being a team makes his mouth twist down unhappily at one corner.
he does not know what it is he is waiting for. it feels as if there is a sword that hangs over his throat, or a knife at his back, anticipation of a blade biting beneath skin. the skew and twist back to what passes for normalcy between them, in the wake of the information he had imparted — it feels stolen.
his attention drops, focuses on the sandalwood bead.
truthfully, he does not want to try it. in the moment, it does not matter and he does not care. but after a long moment, he shifts it in his hand, and passes his thumb over it. a press of chakra to its surface activates it as promised, and watches as the soft red glow is birthed from that touch. ๏ผ
[Itachi's gaze dropping means he misses the waver in Wei Wuxian's smile but that's for the best. All things considered, he knows that Itachi allowing him to come over at all is a testament to their relationship.
But he resolves to finish as efficiently as possible. With a flick of red energy from his fingers, he activates the bead on his own neck and then steps several paces to the side. There is a light that immediately glows on both beads in the direction of the other. As Wei Wuxian steps to the other side, so does the light move along the bead.
Another time, he might babble about how he'd initially tried to base it off of the cardinal directions before realizing that he wasn't even sure how that would work if they were in space as they are now. Now though, he only moves back to where he was and flicks the bead off again.]
Pretty simple. [His hand drops from the necklace and he pauses.]
I won't take mine off. And if something happens to it, I'll let you know. [He steps forward and takes one of Itachi's hands between both of his, squeezing it lightly.]
Be safe, alright? I'm going to miss you. [His smile turns sheepish, and just a little shy. It was easier to couch such sincere statements behind overdramatic exuberant declarations, but that doesn't feel right now.]
๏ผ wordless, he slips the banded cord over his left wrist, so it will not rest against the burn scars now nearly two years old on his right. he tightens it deftly, and turns the bead inward so it rests against the median vein before letting wei ying claim his hand. ๏ผ

[There is giving Itachi his space and then there is ignoring what's in front of him. If Itachi doesn't want to speak on it, he won't, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't ask. His hands keep their hold on Itachi's hand and he squeezes it once more.]
Are you upset that I'm here? [Notably, there is no guilt or hurt in the statement, because he does not feel those things. This is not Forsythe Heights where he had made a grave mistake, but he understands Itachi may need more time away from him all the same.]
