[action, training room]

[ Sam waits, body in the kind of stretch that borders on painful, but feels good - the kind of stretch he's had to work himself back up to, muscles too tight and out of shape after three months in a coma. He was in better shape than he'd have been back home thanks to the Doc and his tech, but still - nothing can stop three months worth of no training from having an affect, and Sam needs his body built stronger and more limber than it's become in order to be able for it to do what he needs it to. It's tedious work. Frustrating, because he was in damn fine shape before this and feels he has to reclaim an unfair amount of territory. But Sam's nothing if not persistent. Overly so, according to some. But neither Bucky nor McCoy are here to tell him to go easier on himself because he's still recovering from a nasty blaster shot.

Screw that. The next mission isn't going to wait for him to recover, either.

Perhaps that's why the idea comes to him in the middle of texting Itachi and explaining 'play stupid games, win stupid prizes' to him. Which to be fair, turns out pretty universal, but forgive him for not being his usual witty genius while pushing himself into the splits. Bucky's not here, and Sam's feeling an itch to work on some weight training. He's reckless, but he's not stupid. So he asks 'hey, you wanna spot me for some weight training?'. And now he waits.

Dude's not gonna give him that kind of disapproval, at least, and is clearly capable from what Sam's seen in the training room before today. Itachi might not need to be building up strong bulk the way Sam does, but Sam's still figured out he'd likely have no trouble wiping the floor with Sam.

Hence, no sparring, just spotting for weight training. Sam's reckless, not stupid. ]

Oh - right.

[ Should have occured to him, honestly. Sam's used to his way of speech to the extent where he even forgets the whitest boy on earth wouldn't understand who Sam's tt is - it slipped his mind to consider that for a variety of reasons, spotting wouldn't be something Itachi'd be familiar with.

Interesting that he showed up anyway without knowing, only asking the question here. Sam pulls himself out of the stretch. ]

It's a term in weight training when someone wants to lift beyond what they're currently comfortably doing on their own. When you wanna push. The other person can help with the initial lift and be there for safety to grab the weight in case of muscle failure, so the other person isn't crushed. Spotters also sometimes help to force a lift to push that little bit more, to complete the set a bit past where it'd otherwise be possible. So, spotters make training safer, but also allow the lifter to push further. Bucky usually spots me and gives me shit for overdoing it, but he's ditching me to hang out with a kid today, and I could use a capable set of hands.

[ That's the fun thing about being one of the normal dudes among a gaggle of seriously super powered individuals. Sam gets to run with them and keep pace pretty well considering, but he also gets to remind him he's just a squishy dude who's gonna die real easy one of these days.

Good fun all around.

Sam leads them to the bench. ]

Out of curiosity - how much do you lift without any struggle whatsoever? Look, I know I'm not gonna scratch it, but don't mean I ain't a little curious.

[ Sam whistles, nodding slightly to himself. Not surprising in the sense that he's learned to roll with the punches in realizing just how powerful the people around him are.

Good thing Sam never jokingly suggested that Itachi and Bucky should spar, because he's not sure he'd have enjoyed cleaning up what was left of his partner after - or at least his pride. ]

So at least I don't have to worry about dying. Alright, so the important thing is you gotta let me do the work on my own. Your job is to support the lift off the bar, and then make sure I don't get crushed to death if I'm stupidly overdoing shit. You're also by law not allowed to judge my struggles, or I'm not gonna send you cute little idioms again. Deal?

[ Sam walks him through the process of it all. The stance, the safety grip. Knows it's not technically necessary, but truth be told, if he starts training off form with one person it's just easier to slip up with someone else who might actually take the wrong lesson to other people - so Sam's gonna do it right.

He does smirk though. ]

A hassle, I know. And truth be told, I hate this part of things... the building up instead of maintaining, y'know? The things I do to fly, man...

[ He gets on the bench after loading up the weights, then throws a look up at Itachi. ]

Tell me more about your world? Or the shinobi you mentioned?
